BowTie Press Author, Bo Bengtson, Honored by The Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- BowTie, Inc., the world's largest publisher of pet and animal magazines and websites, is proud to announce that Bo Bengtson, editor-at-large of Dogs in Review and author of Best In Show, published by Kennel Club Books, a division of BowTie Press, received the Alliance of Purebred Dog Writers (APDW) Stonehenge Award at its annual awards luncheon held February 8, 2009, in New York City.

The Stonehenge Award, given to an individual who has contributed significantly to the dog sport over the years, recognizes a lifetime of achievement for Bengtson, who has been an influence in the fancy for more than 50 years.

"Our publishing house is rightly proud of Bengtson and this history-making volume that has been called the most important book ever published about the international sport of showing dogs," says Andrew DePrisco, editor-in-chief and vice-president of Kennel Club Books.

Bengtson is regarded as the foremost international authority on show dogs both past and present. Born and educated in Sweden, he has spent several decades studying dogs worldwide. While maintaining a selective kennel, primarily of Whippets, Bengtson has bred or owned more than 100 champions, including many Best in Show winners. As a judge, he has officiated at the world's top dog shows: Westminster, Crufts and the World Show.

Bengtson is also the recipient of the American Whippet Club's Certificate of Achievement, the Swedish Kennel Club's Hamilton plaquette, and the Dog Writers Association of America's Maxwell and Elsworth S. Howell awards. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books about dogs in the United States and abroad, including Dogs of the World, The Whippet, Dogs and Dog Shows Around the World, and most recently, the highly celebrated Best In Show. He also founded and published award-winning publications, including Sighthound Review and Dogs in Review.

"Bo's dedication to the sport and his global vision have raised the bar among both the fancy and American dog publications," says Allan Reznik, editor-in-chief of Dogs in Review and editor at large of Dog Fancy and Dog World.
